Uploading Blog Posts in the Office
Today, I met with the Secretary General in the office to begin uploading my finished articles to the TCPA blog webpage. I found it very gratifying to finally see my articles of my internship experience uploaded onto the page. This is my first time ever writing something in both English and Chinese simultaneously, so it was really cool to see the finished product. This will be a good resource for me to have in the future, as I’ll have a direct link ready to share with people who want to take a closer look at my internship experience in Taiwan. I have to take a careful look at each article before I post it, because although I am able to use the assistance of Google Translate, if often mistranslates or incorrectly represents the original meaning of my sentences, so this is something I have to be careful with. It will take me some time to finish uploading all of the posts, however, once I’m done, I can have a digital representation of my internship portfolio that I’ll be proud to look at.
While not directly related to the day’s activities, I spent some time scrolling through the Taipei Times to catch up on recent news. One article intrigued me, which was about the potential of Chinese apps being made available to download in Taiwan. However, when these apps were tested by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, many of them failed for attempting to access key information that was not directly related to their core functions. One topic I’m very interested in is Chinese espionage in Taiwan. Some intelligence agencies estimate that there are currently thousands of Chinese spies operating across Taiwan, which includes Taiwanese civil society, which is the field the TCPA operates within. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is concerned about the use of Chinese apps in Taiwan because of their ability to track and funnel user data back to Beijing, which can generate precise geolocation assets that could be used in a potential takeover of this island. The possibility of Taiwan’s annexation is a serious and sensitive geopolitical topic, and Taiwan’s government is doing their best to combat China’s intelligence apparatus. During my time here, I have grown concerned about Taiwan’s future and the role the United States could play in order to ensure Taiwan remains a sovereign state.
